German Shepherd Grooming. Let Him Feel And Look Great
Filed Under German Shepherd Obedience -German Shepherd Handbook
Taking care of your German shepherd’s coat is not just because he will look better, but also because he will feel better. The German shepherd’s coat is short and also shiny. It really is not difficult to take care of. The coat is made of two layers, and inside layer and an outside layer. Sometimes they will shed a little, at other times a lot. This is why it is so important to groom. A German shepherd’s coat is fairly dense.
Try to “quick” brush your dog at least twice a week. If you do not, he will start to shed, and his undercoat will become matted. This is very uncomfortable for your dog. Your dog will actually learn to enjoy his brushing times with you.
When he sheds more than other times, use a “rake” or a dog grooming “blade”…this is a special tool, not a real blade! Do not use excessive pressure when using these tools, you will hurt the dog. A shedding rake will also help by massaging your dog’s skin, and also by loosening his natural oils.
Check the hair on his paws. You can keep them trim for a nicer look. And, it feels better to the dog.
Try not to actually bath your dog more than twice a year. Their skin will dry out if you bath them too much. Perhaps you want to treat your dog with some “dog spa” products after you bathe him.
German shepherds really do not require a lot of maintenance. If you make it your duty to brush him regularly, and to check him regularly, you will have a great looking dog.
P.S. If you’re serious about getting a happier, healthier and more well-behaved German Shepherd, you need to get the German Shepherd Handbook today!
