We are right in the middle of summer. Time for family fun like walks in the park. Baseball games for the kids, swimming, cottage and camping. And of course BBQ s.
Some of these will include your dog. So many people are still fighting with their precious pets. And, the bigger the dog, the worse it is because of the sheer strength of the beastie
1 – When someone comes to your door, do you have to shut your dog away? Or do you have to hold him back, yell at him with the door open?
2 – When you walk, do you feel like you are “water skiing”, the dog being the boat, of course.
3 – When you are scooping, are you trying to grab the poop with one hand, while holding back your 100 pound Shepherd with the other?
4 – Can your kids walk the dog?
5 – Can you have visitors without being jumped and pawed or barked at? As a matter of fact, do your visitors knock on the door and then step back 10 feet before you open it?
There are just so many difficult situations you can get into with an untrained dog. And, the bigger the dog, the more difficult the situation.
Take the time to train your dog. It’s worth it, really! Both for your sake, and the sake of your dog. After all, a well trained dog is also a safer and more secure dog.

In German Shepherd Dogs the recessive gene for white coat hair was cast in the breed gene pool by the late 19th and early 20th century breeding program that developed and expanded the German Shepherd Dog breed in Germany. A white herding dog named Greif was the grandfather of Horand von Grafrath, the dog acknowledged as the foundation of all contemporary German Shepherd Dog bloodlines.
During the 1970’s, white dog fanciers in the United States formed their own White German Shepherd Dog breed clubs, breeding and showing their dogs at small specialty dog shows. By the late 1990’s a portion of fanciers decided to establish a new American White Shepherd breed standard and petitioned the American Kennel Club for breed recognition, separate and independent from the German Shepherd dog breed club’s control. The American Kennel Club has not granted recognition or registration for the American White Shepherd Dog breed, but breeders associated with the American White Shepherd Breed Club continue club activities and continue to negotiate with the AKC for breed recognition. The American Kennel Club continues registration of German Shepherd Dogs with white coats under its German Shepherd Dog breed registry.
