I was taking my dogs for a walk this morning, including my adopted dog Shorty.  Now Shorty has been socialized, and she is doing great.  She had some issues, coming from the dog pound, with big dogs confronting her.  As I said, she is doing really good.

I also had my Golden with me, Nikki, who has no issues with anything.

Both dogs were on a leash.  And, along comes this energized German Shepherd…off leash.  He comes tearing down, full speed, at my dogs.  The owner gives the usual “don’t worry, he is good, he won’t hurt your dogs” speech.   Well, I called back “my Shorty DOES still have some issues, so she may NOT be friendly”.

He called his dog back.  But, lo and behold, just as most dogs lose in the park, he didn’t go back.  So, to avoid an issue, I held unto my Shorty, and let Nikki go.  Nikki does come back when called.

Please, teach and enforce the recall command.  For the safety of all involved.  It’s so important people.

And, here is help to teach your dogs exactly that. It’s not expensive, you can do it from home, and you will be able to walk in peace, and safely!
