The Importance Of Your German Shepherd and Leash Training
It is the last long weekend before fall. And, it is going to be picture perfect weather for the next 5 days! Ya!!!
But, there is one problem. Everyone will be out:
- families
- kids
- bikes
- rollerbladers
- dogs (both leashed and, unfortunately, unleashed)
A friend of mine went to the waterfront yesterday afternoon. I had my black lab, and he was walking my golden retriever. She is not a strong woman, but my golden is very friendly, good thing, because, out of nowhere comes this teeny weeny little dog, running full speed towards my two dogs.
Now, my black lab is a good dog, but, she does have an issue at times with a strange dog running “into her face”.
I tried to shoo the little monster out of the way, but no go. She was determined to come and attack my black lab, so, I very gently, but firmly, used my foot to keep her at length from my lab.
The owner finally came out and got his little dog, and said “she does love to go after big dogs”… So, why the heck keep it off leash?????
Now, what would have happened if a frail person was walking a determined Shepherd, who may have wanted this little morsel of a dog as an appetizer?
Again, leash training is so important that I can’t say it often enough!!
If you are the owner of a Shepherd, then you have to consider commitment to training so that you have happy, well behaved and SAFE dog…
